NCSI Presented: Parentally Placed Private School Students with Disabilities
To meet the requirements of IDEA, every year each LEA must expend a proportionate share of federal IDEA funds on equitable services for parentally placed private school children with disabilities. This series reviews the responsibilities of SEAs for ensuring LEAs implement child find, timely and meaningful consultation with representatives of parentally placed private school children with disabilities, the provision of equitable services. and calculation of proportionate share amounts.

This webinar featured an opportunity to hear from state panelists on policies, best practices, and strategies related to its implementation of IDEA requirements for parentally-placed private school students with disabilities. The Office of Non-Public Education (ONPE) shared available resources to states. NCSI also previewed two new tools for SEAs and LEAs to monitor compliance with requirements including an SEA Self-Assessment and Proportionate Share Tracker.

This webinar featured an opportunity to hear OSEP responses to questions submitted during previous webinars and to engage in further discussions with OSEP staff. Topics covered included child find and child count in private schools, meaningful consultation with private schools, equitable services, and calculation of proportionate share amounts.

This session served as a continuation from the IDEA Fiscal Forum 2020 Virtual Edition. NCSI staff provided examples of how states meet these requirements, discussed questions and challenges with states, and reviewed available resources and answers to frequently asked questions.
