Promoting Equitable Reclassification of Multilingual Learners with Disabilities
The National Center for Systemic Improvement (NCSI) partnered with Dr. Sara Kangas, a leading expert in multilingual learners (MLs) with disabilities, to bring ML and special education state leaders together for a one-hour national webinar on reclassification of dually identified students. The webinar draws from the contents of a soon-to-be released policy brief that addresses critical equity considerations in the reclassification of MLs with disabilities.
The webinar and accompanying policy brief provide state leaders with:
(a) a portrait of the reclassification policy landscape for MLs with disabilities
(b) the latest research findings regarding equitable reclassification
(c) recommendations for promoting reclassification policies and procedures that consider the unique needs of dually identified students
