On July 15, 2015, the National Center for Systemic Improvement (NCSI) and the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (ECTA) will jointly present Assessment of Social and Emotional Development in the Context of Relationships. Many states have identified improving the assessment of social and emotional skills of young children as one of the coherent improvement strategies to address a State-identified Measurable Result (SiMR) focused on social and emotional development within their State Systemic Improvement Plans (SSIPs). Presenters, Dr. Jane Squires (University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities/Center on Human Development, College of Education University of Oregon) and Dr. Molly Witten (Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis and the Erikson Institute), will discuss special considerations when assessing the social and emotional development of young children, as well as the use of comprehensive tools versus assessments specifically for the social and emotional domain.
